CIS fuels personal potential

…So every student can take charge of their story and define their success for life.

Inspired By Excellence & Innovation

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

WHY COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOL?

Communities In Schools (CIS) believes that caring, one-on-one relationships between adults and young people make the crucial difference. Programs don’t change kids – relationships do. CIS creates comprehensive, locally controlled and owned support systems around schools. In partnership with the local system, CIS identifies the most critical needs of students and families – needs that are preventing children from succeeding in school, and in life.

CIS fuels personal potential, so every student can take charge of their story and define their success for life.

The Program That's Turning Schools Around

By Annie Lowrey

The key to closing the achievement gap may lie outside the classroom. This compelling piece explores how "community school" programs like Communities In Schools (CIS) are driving success by supporting students with the non-academic challenges they face at home—resulting in higher graduation rates and better long-term outcomes.

Students in a classroom environment

WE’RE BUILDING A POWERFUL CHANGE MOVEMENT.

At Communities In Schools® (CIS™), we believe that every student has what they need to realize their full potential in school and beyond.

  • Unlock PotentialWe see potential in every student.

  • Build Relationships – Ÿ We foster relationships that transform how students see and experience the world around them.

  • Break Down Barriers – We acknowledge that structural barriers can be just as hard to overcome as personal challenges and circumstances.

We walk by their side, in their communities, to challenge the systems and barriers that stand between them and their success in life.

OUR VALUES

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Accountability | Integrity | Collaboration | Equity | Excellence

First and foremost, it is the students themselves who guarantee CIS’ success. Last year, nearly one million young people demonstrated that hard work, commitment to learning and a desire to give back to peers and community can equal success. Parents give their approval and support to each child’s participation in CIS. They become involved in CIS’ mission, volunteer their time and often benefit themselves from parenting classes and other family-skills initiatives brokered into schools by CIS.

Bring communities of support to our students, in schools and beyond

Our unique model centers on having a dedicated, full-time social service professional on every campus we serve. We build relationships with businesses, volunteers, and partners to bring community resources to the school campus. These additional supports allow us to ensure that students get the exact services they need.

April CIS Highlights: This month, Ms. Mojica continued hosting lunch groups and launched an SEL activity focused on "Study Skills." Students learned the definition and participated in how studying can be used in different ways. Additionally, the site coordinator provided examples that can help the student relax before taking an exam and how to take a small break.
This month CIS celebrated "Kid's Day" with an outdoor field trip to the Resaca de las Palmas State Park. Notably, we also want to congratulate Luis Sosa and family for achieving a great goal and placing runner-up for Stillman MS. Stay tuned for more! Email: cis-jmojica@bisd.us
